Head of Greater China Equities and Portfolio Manager
John Tsai, G’01, WG’01, is the Head of Greater China Equities and Portfolio Manager at Eastspring Investments, the Asian asset management business of Prudential plc with US$216 bn in AUM. He leads a team of equity investors responsible for investing in Greater China and is the Lead Portfolio Manager for the China, Greater China, and Hong Kong equity strategies. Prior to joining Eastspring in 2016, John was an Equity Portfolio Manager and Equity Research Analyst at MFS Investment Management. During his 15 years at MFS, John held key leadership roles and was based in the firm’s Boston, Tokyo, and Singapore offices. He was responsible for investing in various equity mandates including Asia Pacific ex-Japan, Japan, Greater China, and Global Consumer. John has also worked as a sell-side equity analyst at Indosuez WI Carr Securities in Taipei. In all, he has over 23 years of investment experience. John holds a B.Com degree from McGill University. He also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute with an MBA from the Wharton School and an MA in International Studies from the School of Arts and Sciences.
John is a member of Wharton’s Executive Board for Asia. He is President of the Penn & Wharton Club of Singapore and was the Co-Chair of Singapore’s inaugural Ivy Ball. John is a member of the China Working Group of the Asian Corporate Governance Association and sits on the board of several companies in China and Taiwan. John is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese (Hokkien), and Japanese and speaks some Cantonese and French. John, his wife Carmen, and their four children have made Singapore their home for the past decade.
